Final Round Grants

At its final board meeting of the year, Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation Trustees approved 62 grants totaling $2.9 million to New Jersey nonprofit organizations, bringing the total amount awarded this year to more than $11 million.

A full listing of this round of grants is below:

  • American Littoral Society (Highlands, Monmouth County): $75,000 for general operating support to protect New Jersey's coastal environment through coordinated policy advocacy, partnerships, education, community engagement and citizen science. Program: Environment
  • Americans for the Arts ( Washington, DC): $20,000 to support New Jersey's participation in a State Policy Pilot Program designed to increase access to arts education. Program: Education
  • Art Pride New Jersey Foundation (Burlington, Burlington County): $12,500 to support a statewide collaboration with AFA for its fifth national study of the economic impact of the nonprofit arts and culture industry, Arts & Economic Prosperity V (AEP5). Program: Arts
  • Arts and Education Center (Matawan, Monmouth County): $15,000 to provide scholarships for participants in the NJ State Teen Arts Festival. Program: Education
  • Arts Horizons Englewood, Bergen County): $40,000 to provide project support for the 2016 summer Artist/Teacher Institute and year-round Intersessions, as well as scholarships for teachers from districts serving underserved students. Program: Education
  • Association of New Jersey Environmental Commissions (Mendham, Morris County): $ 90,000 for general operating support to educate and assist municipal environmental commissions to advance local environmental protection, and to advocate for strong state and regional environmental policy.   • Center for Community Arts (Cape May, Cape May County): $15,000 to strengthen CCA's financial position by providing funding for key management and corporate functions. Program: Arts
  • Clean Ocean Action (Highlands, Monmouth County): $70,000 for general operating support to defend, protect, and improve New Jersey's marine water quality and community resiliency through grassroots advocacy, education and engagement, and science and research. Program: Environment
  • Clean Water Fund (Long Branch, Monmouth County): $65,000 To promote models for green urban water infrastructure and climate adaptive policies and practices at state and local levels, with a focus in Newark, New Jersey. Program: Environment
  • coLAB Arts Inc (New Brunswick, Middlesex County): $12,300 To support in-depth theater instruction for young artists that links a network of working professionals with New Brunswick High School students. Program: Education
  • Community Foundation of South Jersey (Haddonfield, Camden County): $50,000 For general operating support of the Community Foundation's efforts to increase the level and effectiveness of South Jersey philanthropy and for support of a board training series for regional nonprofits. Program: Technical Assistance
  • Community Soup Kitchen and Outreach Center (Morristown, Morris County): $30,000 To provide food and supportive services to the homeless and working poor in our community. Program: Morristown
  • D & R Greenway Land Trust (Princeton, Mercer County): $75,000 General operating support to preserve and care for land and conservation easements, and inspire a community conservation ethic by creatively connecting people and land. Program: Environment
  • Dance New Jersey (Montclair, Essex County): $85,000 To expand and disseminate the Dance to Learn Curriculum to greater numbers of students and teachers through NJ's professional dance community during the 2016/2017 school year. Program: Education
  • Dodge Artful Teaching Initiative (Morristown, Morris County): $15,000 For support of arts-integration teacher training opportunities provided by innovative arts-integration experts whom are not affiliated with a non-profit organization. Program: Education
  • East Coast Greenway Alliance (Durham, North Carolina): $25,000 To support development of an ongoing greenway project that connects New Jersey's people to the state's rivers and tributaries. Program: Environment
  • Eastern Environmental Law Center (Newark, Essex County): $90,000 General operating support to ensure essential legal services for organizations and partners addressing environmental justice, climate change/clean energy, land use, and water quality issues in New Jersey. Program: Environment
  • Education Law Center (Newark, Essex County): $77,000 "For general operating support of the Law Center's efforts on behalf of disadvantaged public school children for equal access to a high quality education and and for participation on a New Jersey leadership team focused on arts education policy.   • Foundation for Educational Administration (Monroe Township, Middlesex County): $175,000 To provide district/school creativity leadership teams with programming to design strategies for implementation of the Common Core through arts-infused instruction. Program: Education
  • Funders' Network for Smart Growth and Livable Communities (Coral Gables, Florida): $20,000 "To support joint learning and collaborative work among funders focused on sustainable stormwater management and green infrastructure, and for the Funders' Network's 2016 conference. Program: Environment
  • GreenFaith (Highland Park, Middlesex County): $50,000 To launch five GreenFaith Circles, local networks of faith-based institutions partnering to increase the impact of environmental programs in communities across New Jersey. Program: Environment
  • Hackensack Riverkeeper (Hackensack, Bergen County): $70,000 For general operating support of the restoration and preservation of the Hackensack River Watershed for the benefit of its people and its resident wildlife, and to support a shared staff attorney with NY-NJ Baykeeper.   • Mason Gross School of the Arts (New Brunswick, Middlesex County): $10,000 To provide scholarships for financially needy and meritorious students to attend the 2016 Rutgers Summer Jazz Institute. Program: Education
  • Mason Gross School of the Arts (New Brunswick, Middlesex County): $20,000 To provide talented and needy high school students with financial scholarships for the Rutgers Summer Acting Conservatory. Program: Education
  • Monmouth Conservation Foundation (Middletown, Monmouth County): $20,000 General operating support for open space, parkland, and farmland preservation and stewardship efforts in Monmouth County. Program: Environment
  • National Wildlife Federation (Montpelier, Vermont): $10,000 For arts-integration professional development opportunities for teachers participating in the Eco-Schools program. Program: Education
  • Natural Lands Trust (Media, Pennsylvania): $40,000 To support land preservation and stewardship projects, and to promote and connect private landowners with USDA conservation programs in South Jersey. Program: Environment
  • Natural Resources Defense Council (New York, New York): $30,000 To address NJ's largest water pollution sources, stormwater and sewage overflows, by modernizing statewide regulatory requirements, financing programs, and local management plans. Program: Environment
  • Nature Conservancy (Chester, Morris County): $70,000 General operating support to advance the health and resilience of New Jersey's land and water for the benefit of people and nature. Program: Environment
  • New Jersey Audubon (Bernardsville, Somerset County): $65,000 General operating support to further watershed protection through forest stewardship and restoration, open space protection, and related public policy advocacy, and to advance collaboration and partnership within the Delaware River Watershed.   • New Jersey Charter Schools Association (Hamilton, Mercer County): $60,000 For the ArterCharters initiative that assists public charter schools in the development and implementation of sustainable, high quality Arts Education Plans. Program: Education
  • New Jersey Conservation Foundation (Far Hills, Morris County): $10,000 To expand the offerings and diversify attendance at the 20th annual New Jersey Land Conservation Conference. Program: Environment
  • New Jersey Future (Trenton, Mercer County): $30,000 "For continued support of Local Recovery Planning Managers in municipalities heavily impacted by Hurricane Sandy, providing direct assistance and capacity to plan, manage and implement recovery and long term resiliency initiatives.   • New Jersey Spotlight (Community Foundation of New Jersey) (Morristown, Morris County): $50,000 To strengthen NJ Spotlight's sustainability with further implementation of a long-term business and community outreach plan. Program: Media

  • New Jersey Youth Theatre (Westfield, Union County): $28,000 For support of exemplary performance opportunities and professional training for aspiring young artists. Program: Education
  • New York Public Radio (New York, New York): $125,000 For operating support of NJPR News, a multiplatform news unit providing public service journalism and engagement for New Jersey. Program: Media
  • Newark Boys Chorus School (Newark, Essex County): $30,000 For support of the school's world-class music program.  Program: Education
  • Newark Celebration 350 (Newark, Essex County): $75,000 For arts-related programming during a year-long "festival of festivals" celebrating Newark's 350th Anniversary which will promote and improve morale and foster pride among Newark's residents, employees and students. Program: Arts
  • Northeast Organic Farming Association (Hillsborough, Somerset County): $45,000 General operating support to advance organic farming and sustainable agricultural practices in New Jersey through education, technical assistance, and advocacy. Program: Environment
  • Open Space Institute, Inc (New York, New York): $40,000 To support multifaceted land conservation and preservation initiatives in New Jersey. Program: Environment
  • Partnership for the Delaware Estuary (Wilmington, Delaware): $40,000 To support Delaware Estuary protection and restoration projects and outreach programs in New Jersey. Program: Environment
  • Passaic River Coalition (Morristown, Morris County): $40,000 To support continued organizational restructuring and implementation of a conservation land stewardship and transition plan. Program: Environment
  • Paterson Alliance (Paterson, Passaic County): $45,000 For a Nonprofit Leadership Institute designed to increase the overall capacity and leadership of the nonprofit members of the Paterson Alliance. Program: Technical Assistance
  • Paterson Education Fund (Paterson, Essex County): $10,000 For support of PEF's administrative efforts to further the development of the Paterson School District's Arts Education Strategic Plan. Program: Education
  • Pathways to College (Newark, Passaic County): $30,000 For support of Newark's Pathways programs at Newark Arts High School and art students at other Newark high schools.  Program: Education
  • Pinelands Preservation Alliance (Southampton, Burlington County): $80,000 General operating support of grassroots engagement and policy advocacy to defend the Pinelands Comprehensive Management Plan and protect the Kirkwood-Cohansey aquifer. Program: Environment
  • Pre-K Our Way A New Jersey Nonprofit Corporation (Florham Park, Morris County): $25,000 To support local outreach in promoting expansion of NJ's existing high-quality pre-K for ages 3 and 4 in more communities. Program: Public Policy
  • NJTV (Englewood, Essex County): $40,000 To pilot "Ask Away," a new initiative to deepen NJTV's relationship with the community by partnering with the public in developing stories and news together. Program: Media
  • Renew the Arts Initiative (Community Foundation of New Jersey) (Newark, Essex County): $27,500 For the support of the coordinator of the Renew the Arts Initiative, an arts education strategic plan for the district. Program: Education
  • Rowan University (Glassboro, Gloucester County): $65,000 To support continued development of NJ MAP, providing easy-to-understand geospatial tools and information to advance sustainability and environmentally sound land use planning decisions in communities across the state.   • Rutgers University Foundation (New Brunswick, Middlesex County): $35,000 For the Green Infrastructure Technical Support Program that provides technical training to communities to adopt a green infrastructure strategy and implement projects to reduce stormwater pollution and flooding, and improve community resiliency.   • Saving the Great Swamp Documentary (Community Foundation of New Jersey) Morristown, Morris County): $25,000 A one-hour documentary film about the battle to defeat the proposed jetport at the Great Swamp in the 1960s. Program: Morristown
  • Sister Cities Girlchoir (Camden, Camden County): $30,000 For choral El Sistema programs for girls in Camden with goals of achieving musical excellence and positive youth development.  Program: Education
  • Stevens Institute of Technology (Hoboken, Hudson County): $50,000 For a STEAM teacher training program which integrates Art into STEM through Engineering Design.  Program: Education
  • Stony Brook - Millstone Watershed Association (Pennington, Mercer County): $220,000 General operating support for the protection and restoration of the Stony Brook-Millstone Watershed through science, policy advocacy, and community engagement, and to support statewide watershed protection efforts through the Watershed Institute.   • Trenton Public Education Foundation (Trenton, Mercer County): $10,000 "For support of the development of an arts education strategic plan for Trenton Public Schools in partnership with a Community Arts Team and guided by the Kennedy Center's Any Given Child program. Program: Education
  • We Raise New Jersey (Community Foundation of New Jersey) (Morristown, Morris County): $25,000 To support We Raise New Jersey, a diverse coalition of New Jersey organizations and associations working together to collectively amplify the need for high quality common core academic standards and aligned assessment.   • Wharton Institute for the Performing Arts Berkeley Heights, Union County): $32,000 To support the work of the El Sistema New Jersey Alliance in connecting and strengthening El Sistema-inspired programs statewide. Program: Education
  • Wharton Institute for the Performing Arts Berkeley Heights, Union County): $40,000 For the Paterson Music Project, an El-Sistema-inspired program at two Paterson schools that seeks to inspire children through the shared experience of achieving musical excellence, enabling them to create social change.   • WHYY Philadelphia, Camden County): $50,000 For continued support of WHYY-FM and NewsWorks' community-focused coverage of southern New Jersey. Program: Media
