Our giving in Environment focuses on organizations and leaders working in New Jersey to improve livability as it relates to current patterns of land consumption and development.  We seek proposals that:

Strengthen and uphold nonprofit groups whose primary work is preserving major ecosystems and open space. Primary areas of interest include:

  • strategic, large-scale land preservation and management, including agricultural lands, coastal lands, and lands that protect aquatic ecosystems;
  • sustainable land use (e.g., smart growth practices and policies, ecologically based municipal land use planning, regional growth strategies, maximization of efficient land use and choices to curb wasteful conversion of land, etc.).

Strengthen and uphold nonprofit groups who work on livable communities. Primary areas of interest include:

  • urban parks and recreational open space, including critical habitat corridors;
  • community action in land use planning, green design, and decision making that includes issues related to water access and efficiency, source water conservation, waste water reduction, brownfield reuse, and the reduction of environmental toxins;
  • community food systems (i.e., the consideration of food miles, food quality, food security and sustainable farming).

Strengthen and uphold the community of advocates and innovators who work to accelerate the achievement of ecosystem, open space and livable community goals. Primary areas of interest:

  • Leadership development
