Green Design: Bamboo, Flax and Cork

Bamboo, cork and flax are natural materials that are also rapidly renewable resources. For example, did you know that bamboo is the fastest growing plant on Earth? Cork oak trees are unique because the bark can be stripped without damaging the tree; the bark will regenerate and can be subsequently stripped over and over again in 10 year cycles. And flax is one of the oldest fiber crops in the world, dating back 5000 years.

Additionally, bamboo is a very versatile material and can be used to make a wide array of products. The beautiful wood paneling throughout Dodge’s office space is made from bamboo, but you might be surprised to know that bamboo can also be made into ultra-soft fabric. The chairs in our reception areas are upholstered in both bamboo and flax fabric.

Dodge selected cork for its flooring material in much of its office space. In addition to the eco-friendly harvesting of cork, it is also very durable and therefore an excellent and increasingly popular choice for floors.
