ThinkHost: Green Web Hosting

Text adjacent to sunflowers reads "Does your internet company share your progressive values?"“In partnership with our clients and providers we develop, support and promote sustainable solutions that seek to achieve a common goal - a just, peaceful and environmentally harmonious world for our generation and those yet to come.”

Researching and choosing environmentally friendly vendors is an integral part of our green decision making at Dodge, and in ThinkHost, our new web host provider, we chose a company that is both environmentally friendly and community conscious.

Like Dodge’s energy needs, which are 100% offset by wind power credits, ThinkHost’s servers and staffed offices are fully powered by a mixture of wind and solar power credits.  Explaining ThinkHost’s commitment to renewable energy, Executive Director Vladislav Davidzon  notes, “The hosting industry is a huge consumer of electricity, which puts added stress on our increasingly fragile environment.” ThinkHost actively encourages other hosting businesses to consider switching to renewable energy as well.

ThinkHost works to reduce their impact on the environment in variety of ways. All of its staff work from their homes, which saves thousands of gallons of gas; they use a modest amount of paper by storing the bulk of their data and archives electronically; and most of the staff use notebook computers with low electricity requirements.

ThinkHost is community-minded too. They provide discounted and free web hosting for environmental groups and progressive nonprofits, give cash grants, and provide free email service, which is also powered by 100% renewable energy.

At Dodge, we recognize the importance of supporting businesses like ThinkHost as we look to a future where green power is the industry standard rather than the exception.
