Have you been thinking that in order to survive during this economic crisis you need to come up with innovative ways to accomplish your mission? Have you been thinking strategically about sharing resources, staff or programs with other organizations? Are you wondering what your piece of the market is and how best to maintain and grow it?
Even before the economy collapsed, nonprofit organizations were thinking about strategic collaborations, alliances and occasionally discussed mergers as means to improve organizational effectiveness and pursue mission goals. Now as unearned and earned income sources have become increasingly strained, the conversations have been renewed with fresh vigor and openness to creative solutions. Although concern for the organization’s survival may be a driving force, it is important to realize early on that the most successful partnerships are mission-based, and not about rescuing a fiscally troubled enterprise.
The Dodge Foundation is committed to finding ways to help its current and past grantees learn about the options available for strategic alliances and partnerships. And, since we know that these alliances require time and money to implement, we want to help design opportunities for interested parties to come together to explore options and then if exciting ideas result, help support their implementation. If you have initiated talks with another organization or are even thinking about possible collaborations, you are likely looking for a safe and positive way to test the waters.
To this end, the Foundation has hired Jo DeBolt, Senior Manager with La Piana Consulting, to provide a two-part workshop for Dodge Foundation grantees on:
