Organization Background

As one of our longtime supporters, we are excited to inform you in advance of a major public announcement to be made in early 2015 -- that after 32 seasons, we have refreshed our identity to match the dynamism of the current company. Our name will change to Carolyn Dorfman Dance (CDD).

Carolyn Dorfman Dance is dedicated to the creation and presentation of contemporary dance that reveals the individual uniqueness and ultimate commonality of the human experience. CDD opens dialogues between artists and audiences. Through performance, education, and community programs, we affirm the power of this dynamic art form to entertain, enlighten, engage, and connect with the communities we touch. The company serves a diverse audience in terms of age, socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds. We appear at major venues, dance festivals, universities, and schools throughout the region, and on tour nationally and abroad. Since founding the company in 1982, Ms. Dorfman has created more than 60 works of dance. CDD presents new and repertory works by Ms. Dorfman and acclaimed choreographers; regularly commissions original scores; and collaborates with a wide array of artists. The breadth and depth of themes are wide and varied, speaking about life, past and present; where we have been and where we might go individually or collectively.

Carolyn Dorfman Dance is comprised of 10 multi-ethnic dancers of great technical and dramatic range, who are also skilled teaching artists. The company is led by Ms. Dorfman and Associate Artistic Director Jacqueline Dumas Albert. All technical production staff report directly to Ms. Dorfman as does Jennifer Eisenberg, who started last year as a consulting Arts Education specialist. Executive Director Anita Thomas oversees office staff, including a part-time bookkeeper, and all consultants (including marketing communications specialists and grants/writing experts who work throughout the year). Anna Shaffner is the full-time Communications and Development Manager and Stephanie Cathey is the full-time Company Manager/Office Assistant; they supervise the interns throughout season. Ms. Cathey supports the technical production staff during performances.
