To bring career-building professional development opportunities to artists in New Jersey through a Blended Learning Program delivered via an online platform.
Creative Capital supports innovative artists across the country through funding, counsel and professional development services. Our mission began as an experiment to see how artists in all disciplines could benefit from the kind of opportunities afforded to entrepreneurs in other sectors. Since 1999, we have committed $35 million in financial and advisory support to artists through 465 project grants representing 579 artists, and our Professional Development Program (PDP) has served over 9,000 artists since 2003.
In addition to financial support of up to $50,000 per project, we provide our awardees with the tools and resources they need to succeed. Our Artist Services include a three-day Orientation that focuses on the creation phase of grantees' projects; a Project Support Team, comprised of an Artist Services staff member and an Artist Advisor; the Artist Retreat, a major convening with artists, arts professionals and Creative Capital staff; Community Capital, a new program to support regional grantee gatherings; the Grantee Hub, a private portal created for grantees to access our services; and the Alumni Loan Fund that supports new projects in all disciplines by alumni grantees. Advisory services for 2015 grantees have an estimated value of $45,000, bringing the cumulative value of each grant to $95,000 per project--one of the more generous awards in the arts today.
PDP workshops address the practical skills and management strategies artists need most, including strategic planning, fundraising, PR and marketing, tech-based efficiency and promotional tools, verbal communications, community engagement and financial literacy. Over the years, PDP has grown into a national leader, offering workshops and webinars to artists in more than 400 communities nationwide since 2003.
PDP is managed by Program Director, Alyson Pou; PDP Workshop Manager, Krista Fabian DeCastro; PDP Administrative Manager, Mary Kerr; and a part-time PDP Blended Learning Program Manager. Ultimate responsibility for the program lies with Creative Capital's President & Executive Director, Ruby Lerner, with financial oversight provided by Leslie Singer, Chief Financial Officer.
Creative Capital also manages three affiliate programs that provide support to performing artists and writers on visual culture: The Doris Duke Performing Artist Awards, The MAP Fund, and The Creative Capital | Warhol Foundation Arts Writers Grant Program.
