The Center's mission is, "To provide a vibrant, contemporary cultural center through arts education, exhibitions and community outreach that will inspire creativity and enhance people's lives." The Center for Contemporary Art exists to serve the needs of artists of all ages, abilities and levels of expertise. Education is at the heart of its mission and vital to all program areas. Multi-level art classes and workshops are offered by professional teaching artists year-round in a variety of media including oils, acrylics, pastel, drawing, photography, watercolor, and ceramics that take place in three professional studios. One-day workshops, artist demonstrations, art interpretation classes, professional development workshops, gallery tours and one-on-one mentoring are also offered. The Center is also a popular choice for children's birthday parties and scout badge workshops.
The Center for Contemporary Art is dedicated to fostering the development of the next generation of artists. Children's art classes and weeklong half- and full-day summer art camps serve students ages five and above. A sequential learning format offers "overview" programs that introduce a variety of media and in depth classes that deepen development in a single medium. As part of the curriculum, teachers bring their classes into the galleries to explore exhibitions on view.
The Center's Exhibitions Program presents high quality exhibitions of contemporary art in a variety of media and subject matter. Annual exhibitions include Youth Art Month exhibitions, a Members' Non-Juried and an International Juried Exhibition. Additional exhibitions are organized by outside curators, arts organizations or artist collectives.
The Center for Contemporary Art recognizes the diversity of its community's abilities and needs and is committed to enabling all visitors to experience the benefits of arts education. Outreach programs are designed in response to specific needs and provide an outlet for creative expression in a safe, supportive setting. Year-round programs currently serve children with Autism Spectrum Disorder and other special needs, adults with disabilities, people affected by cancer and senior citizens.
