For general operating support of Eagle Theatre's 2016-17 performance season to serve South New Jersey audiences.

Organization Background

The Eagle Theatre is South Jersey's only year round professional Equity theatre. We are dedicated to redefining regional theatre through innovation; enlightened production techniques and the development of eclectic theatrics.

The historic Eagle Theatre building was constructed in 1914. The 100 year old theatre was originally built as a silent motion picture house, until it was turned into a church and then a warehouse for the majority of its existence. In 2008 Tracy Petrongolo and James Donio worked with the Town of Hammonton to revive the beloved theatre. A year later the theatre re-opened its doors to the public for the first time in 80 years.

The Eagle Theatre went through several incarnations during its first few years of operation as a non-profit. The theatre screened movies, rented out its space, and presented live theatre produced by several regional acting troops. Then the theatre board and staff began a relationship with directors Ted Wioncek III and Ed Corsi.

Wioncek and Corsi each operated their own successful for-profit production companies and staged live plays and musicals throughout Southern New Jersey. Their work was met with much success and critical acclaim. Donio approached the pair to join the Eagle Theatre to become its Co-Artistic Directors. At the moment of their agreement, the Eagle Theatre dedicated itself to only producing the finest live theatre in the region.

The Eagle Theatre steadily grew, gaining accolade after accolade. The Theatre became an Actors' Equity Association Theatre in early 2014, deepening its acquisition of talent. The New Jersey Theatre Alliance inducted the Eagle Theatre into its organization, a significant turning point. Theatre Philadelphia accepted the Eagle Theatre into its prestigious Barrymore Award eligibility in 2014 as well, and the Theatre received Barrymore recommended status for its first four eligible productions. The Theatre gained outstanding critical reviews for every production it has produced since becoming an Equity theatre from media outlets in New Jersey, the Philadelphia region and beyond.
