To advance ongoing statewide efforts that preserve and increase support of the arts through advocacy, promotion and thought leadership.
ArtPride's newly adopted mission, as of February 2, 2016, is now: ArtPride New Jersey advances, promotes and advocates for the arts as essential to the quality of life of every citizen and to the economic vitality of our state. ArtPride's vision is clear. New Jersey should be the most culturally rich and vibrant arts state in the nation. With a focused vision and mission, ArtPride is poised to have the greatest impact in the history of the organization over the next several years.
ArtPride New Jersey (ArtPride) was incorporated in March 1986 in response to the need for an independent organization to represent the arts community to the state legislature; to reinforce the importance of the arts to the public-at-large; and, to present a unified voice on matters of importance to the arts community.
In 2000, ArtPride took on the administration of Discover Jersey Arts (DJA), a statewide arts audience development initiative. In 2005, ArtPride added Arts Plan New Jersey, a widespread approach to connecting arts to economic development, health, education and other areas. These programs are both co-sponsored by New Jersey State Council on the Arts (NJSCA). The projects proved crucial in establishing ArtPride as an integral service organization in addition to its role as an advocacy leader.
ArtPride New Jersey, Inc. was instrumental in saving the arts from elimination in the NJ state budget in 2003 and establishing a dedicated state revenue source for arts, history and tourism through the hotel/motel occupancy tax. Since then, ArtPride has successfully protected this public arts support through its advocacy efforts. As of the time of this proposal, funding for the arts in the FY17 state budget is stable.
In 2013, ArtPride began a comprehensive strategic planning process that restructured the organization, including its mission and activities. In 2015, ArtPride successfully transitioned to a new leadership paradigm led by a President/CEO as executive with a senior staff composed of a Director of Public Policy & Advocacy and a Director of Programs & Services.
