The mission of American Repertory Ballet is: To bring the joy, beauty, artistry and discipline of classical and contemporary dance to New Jersey and nationwide audiences through public performances and to dance students through artistic and educational programs.
This mission is fulfilled through: American Repertory Ballet, the preeminent classical and contemporary ballet company in NJ; Princeton Ballet School, one of the largest non-profit dance schools in the nation; and ARB's Access & Enrichment initiatives, programs designed to expose the community to the art form of dance, as active participants and informed observers, and to develop life-long dance enthusiasts. It is through these three branches of ARB under the leadership of Executive Director Christine Chen that the organization's vision is pursued: 'To Entertain, Educate, Enlighten, and Inspire with the Beauty and Passion of Dance'.
Designated a 'Major Arts Institution' by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts for two decades, and recognized by the National Endowment for the Arts 'American Masterpieces' program, ARB contributes vitally to the quality of life in NJ and plays a leadership role in the dance community.
Led by Artistic Director Douglas Martin, ARB presents ballets from the 19th and 20th centuries alongside contemporary choreographers, and performs at major venues for approximately 20,000 patrons annually. The Princeton Ballet School (PBS) has provided exceptional dance training to NJ students for going on 60 years, enrolling 1,300 students, including almost 300 adult students annually for classes in studios in Cranbury, Princeton, and New Brunswick. Mary Pat Robertson has overseen the school for over 20 years. ARB's Access and Enrichment (A&E) programs is led by Director Lisa Beth Vettoso, and reaches over 11,000 children and families. A&E is the home of our acclaimed DANCE POWER program, a 29-year collaboration with the New Brunswick Board of Education, and the longest running arts/community partnership in New Jersey. DANCE POWER now reaches every 2nd and 3rd grade student in New Brunswick, and ARB provides over $70,000 in scholarship support to DANCE POWER Scholars. Other programs include 'On Pointe', master classes, residencies, assemblies and in-school matinees.
