For General Operating Support that will aid the efforts of the Carolyn Dorfman Dance Company to present contemporary dance through performance, outreach, and education locally, nationally, and internationally. We are requesting an additional $20,000 to development a marketing plan to refresh our identity after 30 years. Unfortunately, our application to the NJ Cultural Trust to fund this effort was not accepted. Our goal is to do everything possible to book more work.
The Carolyn Dorfman is dedicated to the creation and presentation of contemporary dance that reveals the individual uniqueness and ultimate commonality of the human experience. CDDC opens dialogues, between artists and audience. Through performance, education, and community programs, we affirm the power of this dynamic art form to entertain, enlighten, engage and connect with the communities we touch. CDDC serves a diverse audience in terms of age, socio-economic and cultural backgrounds. We appear at major venues, dance festivals, universities and schools throughout the region, and on tour nationally and abroad. Since founding the company in 1982, Ms. Dorfman has created close to 60 works. CDDC presents new and repertory works by Ms. Dorfman and acclaimed choreographers; regularly commissions original scores; and collaborates with a wide array of artists. The breadth and depth of themes are wide and varied, speaking about life, past and present; where we have been and where we might go individually or collectively.
CDDC is comprised of 11 multi-ethnic dancers of great technical and dramatic range, who are also skilled teaching artists. The company is led by Ms. Dorfman, Associate Artistic Director/Dancer Jacqueline Dumas Albert. Reporting to Carolyn this year is a new part-time Arts Education Coordinator, Jennifer Eisenberg. Executive Director Anita Thomas oversees office staff and all consultants. Anna Shaffner is the full-time Communications and Development Associate, who also supervises the interns. The Company Manager position has been in flux since last season due to losing 3 company managers in a row for various personal/personnel reasons. To keep the personnel budget in line, since we needed to add an Arts Education Coordinator, our longtime Stage Manager, Tiffany Tabatchnick (who also served as a company manager while on tour) expressed interest in working part-time as the Company Manager. However, the position was too demanding for Tiffany's schedule and our office administrative needs weren't being met, so in December, we're returning to the old structure of having a full-time Company/Office Manager in the office. Other staff managed by Anita is the part-time bookkeeper and the Marketing, PR and Grants writing consultants who work throughout the year.
