For the Centenary Stage Company, a professional organization presenting year-round theatre, music and dance events in the underserved NJ Skylands; developing new works through our Women Playwrights Series, developing young artists through theatre and dance training programs and serving regional students and schools with quality arts education programs and a state-wide Tour program.
CSC has grown from a small organization to a vibrant year-round company with over 200 performances a year. The heart of the organization is the theatre series, with a reputation for taking risks and developing new work. Our Women Playwrights Series (in its 22st year) provides a working forum for emerging women writers, and our Young Performers Workshop (in its 21st year) has introduced over 2500 young thespians to the performance arts with hands-on production experience and over 50 performances a year. Our new Young Audience Series now tours to schools with performances and workshops from Bergan County to the Pinelands. Our concert and event series provides a diversity of cultural experiences for the region, while also helping to financially sustain and strengthen the core organization. Our new Dance Festival seeks to develop audiences for contemporary dance.
The organization is led by core group of professionals, all with advanced degrees and experience professionally in performance and management. Management has remained stable for over 20 years. Many of the staff also teach in the college theatre program, and the Executive Director also chairs the fine arts program at the college, creating a strong climate for collaboration. In 2010 CSC moved into the new Lackland Center, with its 500-seat Sitnik Theater, BlackBox theatre, and the largest dance studio in the region. Through ambitious planning and campaigning by the invigorated CSC Board, we have enjoyed well over 100% increase in attendance, robust programming expansion and substantially increased sponsorship since the transition.
