To support the Trenton Education Dance Institute (TEDI), a school-based arts-centered youth development program that engages students in the discipline of dance while nurturing each child physically, intellectually, and socially. Students have opportunities to think and create, learn to be part of a team, and develop skills they can apply to succeed in school and life. During the 2013-2014 school year, TEDI will serve approximately 180 Trenton public school students.

Organization Background

The mission of The Children's Home Society of New Jersey (CHSofNJ) is saving children's lives and building healthy families. Founded in 1894 as an orphanage and child placement agency, CHSofNJ has developed into a highly-respected, multi-service agency serving the state's most vulnerable children, youth, and families. CHSofNJ has six core service areas: school-based youth services; early childhood and parenting education services; child, family, and maternal health services; behavioral and mental health services; child welfare and permanency services; and kinship care services. CHSofNJ collaborates with other community agencies in assisting impoverished and low-income families, and has earned a high level of trust and confidence among community residents, government agencies, and other service providers.

Four years ago, the economic downturn and related budget cutbacks sent the TEDI Board of Directors in search of a suitable partner. They discovered that the Children's Home Society of New Jersey (CHSofNJ) had appropriate school-based programmatic experience, strong managerial expertise, and a true commitment to the children and families of Trenton. With the support and encouragement of the Dodge Foundation, in 2012, TEDI became an official affiliate of CHSofNJ. TEDI has become an integral part of the CHSofNJ array of programs and services, benefitting from the strength of the larger organization and influencing the agency's understanding and appreciation of how the arts enrich all lives.

The 2013-2014 has seen changes to the TEDI Artistic Team. The TEDI Artistic Team includes: Nicholas Rodriguez Artistic Director; Glenn McClelland, Program Accompanist; and, Charlotte Perebinossoff, Dance Assistant. The Administrative Team includes: Dolores Bryant, Director of School-Based and Kinship Programs; and, Yolanda Drislane, Program Assistant. CHSofNJ and TEDI are very excited about the new team members, who bring experience with TEDI and Trenton youth, world cultures and National Dance Institute.
