DNJ was founded in 1998 by several of the state's major dance organizations and has grown to a membership of over 300. The organization provides several programs and services, both to its membership and the dance community at large, that support and promote the entire dance community, from individual dance artists to large companies.
Dance New Jersey is the state affiliate of the National Dance Education Organization (NDEO). Through its collaborations with NDEO, Dance New Jersey oversees chapters of the National Honor Society for Dance Arts and sponsors the Student Award for Artistic Excellence and Leadership in Dance.
