Organization Background

Roxey Ballet, founded in 1995, is a contemporary dance company headquartered in Lambertville, NJ. Since its inception, RB has seen consistent growth under the artistic direction of founder Mark Roxey. Drawing upon his roots in Brooklyn and his experience as a professional dancer over an extensive career, Mr. Roxey began developing this high-level institution with a unique artistic vision that is based in both performance and education.

Historically and typically, the company began operation with 'The Nutcracker'. However, within a few seasons, productions began to grow and seasons expand, evolving into the present three to four eclectic productions annually. The artist roster has grown from 'jobbed-in' guest artists supplemented by local students, into the present company of nine contracted professional dancers plus two apprentices and eight aspiring young pre-professionals. These artists present fresh, kinetic dance and always forge a bond with their audiences. From true community productions to those that challenge artists and patrons alike, Roxey Ballet's season is carefully tailored to reach, build and sustain its audiences.

Equally important is RB's deep commitment to education. Under the umbrella 'Building Bridges Through Dance', director Mark Roxey has designed programs of opportunity which introduce the world of creative expression through dance. It regularly offers residencies and in-school programming throughout the region as well as specialized instruction for such underserved populations as those living with disabilities.

While Roxey Ballet continues to grow in artistry, producing programs of opportunity that are at once innovative and effective, it remains dedicated to the mission and values with which it opened its doors 19 years ago: Producing high quality programs that make a difference in the lives of its constituency.
