The Atlantic City Ballet, Inc. (ACB) is a 501 c (3) non-profit organization dedicated to bringing the highest quality classical and contemporary dance to audiences of all ages and cultures, with a primary focus on audiences in Southern New Jersey and the surrounding area.
The ACB preserves the traditions of ballet and promotes greater understanding of dance through the presentation of time-honored classic ballets and innovative contemporary work by a diverse company of 12 professional dancers. The company also supports emerging artists with an apprentice company of 11 additional dancers. Rigorous training programs and community education and outreach initiatives promote the study of the arts, the advancement of arts education, and encourage and strengthen community involvement in dance at every interest and skill level.
Artistic Director Phyllis Papa, a celebrated dancer in her own right, established the Company in 1982 as the Atlantic Contemporary Ballet Theatre. It later became the Atlantic City Ballet. At various times in its history, the AC Ballet has been the resident dance company at Atlantic Cape Community College (Mays Landing, NJ) and Richard Stockton College in New Jersey (Pomona, NJ), and the Keswick Theatre (Glenside, Pennsylvania.) In September, 2007, in cooperation with the Atlantic City Convention and Visitors Authority, ACB became the resident dance company in Boardwalk Hall (Atlantic City, NJ.)
Since its inception, more than 170,000 people have attended performances presented by the ACB and more than 11,000 community members have participated in outreach initiatives.
