For general operating support of Cape May Stage's mainstage season and educational programming.

Organization Background

Cape May Stage provides professional Equity theatre, focused on excellence in acting, in an intimate historic setting, to the residents and visitors of Cape May and surrounding areas; and fosters Arts Education in academic and non-traditional venues. Each year CMS brings 6 -7 Equity productions to our Main Stage.

Beginning in 1988, CMS operated under a Small Professional Theatre Contract, expanding its programming to an 8-month season by 1998. With continued emphasis on bringing professional theater to Cape May, the organization developed marketing and administrative capabilities with an emphasis on financial planning and Board development beginning around 2001. Funds were raised to completely renovate the inside of the Visitor's Church (the 1853 historic structure in which Cape May Stage is housed), which is leased by CMS. The theater was renovated by 2008, and the season now boasts productions intended to bring people together under one roof to 'see the truth about life and the social situation.' Since 2009 CMS has brought known performers and shows from Broadway and television to the popular Second Stage series on Monday nights. This series serves as an ever-expanding collaboration with outstanding local and national organizations and theatrical companies to build a larger audience for the performing arts. CMS offers a Resident Intern Company to college graduates with an interest in learning about and participating in all facets of theatre, including, production, acting, stage management, and theatre administration. For younger children, CMS offers educational programming throughout the year, and week-long summer camp experiences.
