For general operating support of McCarter's 2014-2015 theatre season.
McCarter's mission is to create world-class theater and present the finest performing artists for the engagement, education, and entertainment of our community.
Located in Princeton, New Jersey, McCarter was established in 1929 to house the theatrical activities of Princeton University, but has operated as an independent non-profit theatre since 1972. Today, McCarter is recognized as one of the foremost performing arts centers in this country to serve as both a professional producing theater and a major presenter of the performing arts.
McCarter is committed to commissioning, developing and producing ambitious new works that infuse the national and international repertoire with fresh vitality, as well as creating provocative and original productions of classical plays and modern masterpieces. Arts education and engagement has been a central activity at McCarter since the 1960s; an on-going program of student matinees, afterschool and summer enrichment classes, and in-school residencies have connected the work on our stages to generations of schoolchildren throughout New Jersey. Under the steady leadership of Artistic Director and Resident Playwright Emily Mann, Managing Director Timothy J. Shields, and Special Programming Director William W. Lockwood, Jr., has consistently contributed to the cultural vibrancy and economic vitality of central New Jersey.
