For general operating support to bring quality professional ballet to the people of New Jersey.

Organization Background

More than a half century ago, New Jersey Ballet founders - American Ballet Theater dancers Carolyn Clark and the late George Tomal -- shared a dream of a professional ballet company for New Jersey. The mission was to create a nationally-recognized company of world class dancers that would bring top quality performances, cultural enrichment, and arts education to all New Jerseyans, and enhance the artistic profile of the state at home and beyond.

The company gave its first performances in 1958 at Arts High School in Newark. Before long, New Jersey Ballet had established a strong cultural identity and many of its major initiatives. Over the years, we have reached every corner of the state and performed in other parts of the country and the world. Our extensive and growing repertory includes full length classical ballets, contemporary works and one of the largest collections of ballets for children in the country.

Our Nutcracker is New Jersey's longest running original professional production which has long been a cherished holiday tradition with thousands of families. We donate up to 1000 tickets a year to schools and charitable fundraisers. We continue to add to the cultural wealth of New Jersey with new works from great choreographers of the past and emerging talent working today.

New Jersey Ballet has been designated a Major Arts Institution by the NJ State Council on the Arts in recognition of its 'artistic excellence, substantial programming, and broad public service.' It was recently voted NJ's Favorite Dance Company in the Jersey Arts Marketers online poll.
