For general operating support of the Newark Arts Council's work to publicize and celebrate the arts, form new partnerships, and promote cultural growth in Newark's communities.
For 30 years the Newark Arts Council has served as the cultural anchor of Newark, NJ and exists to provide leadership, direction, and energy to the arts community. Our work has long been seen by many of the city's stakeholders as instrumental in the re-creation of the City of Newark into a vibrant, safe, economically supportive, creative environment where the lives of citizens are enhanced by artists and arts institutions working hard hand-in-hand with government and corporate sectors.
The NAC exists to encourage cohesiveness among artists and arts and cultural organizations in Newark, and to strengthen and perpetuate the advocacy role that such a coalition of artists, arts organizations and supporters of the arts can play in advancing the arts in Newark and in making Newark a thriving center of artistic ad cultural activity. The Council enriches the quality of life for people in Newark and neighboring communities by raising funds for the arts, advocating for the arts, sponsoring events in conjunction with other arts organizations, providing educational opportunities strengthening cultural resources, developing social capital, and aiding economic development.
Mission: Through programs, advocacy, promotion, education, and coordination, the Newark Arts Council brings the transformative power of the arts into the lives of those who live in, work in, and visit Newark to further impact economic and community development.
