Since 1923, The Rutgers University Graduate School of Education (GSE) has been a national leader in preparing educators who create effective and equitable learning and in supporting researchers who discover new knowledge that strengthens and advances their endeavors. As a professional school within Rutgers, GSE is dedicated to the study and improvement of education, and the creation of knowledge about teaching and learning. We seek to ensure that all children and adults have access to high quality educational programs. Our partnerships and service contributions focus on New Jersey but extend to both national and global communities. Developing innovative programs that focus on attainment of educational excellence for diverse learners is among our 21st century goals.


Professor Saundra Tomlinson-Clarke is an Associate Professor, Department of Educational Psychology at Rutgers GSE. Faculty in the Department of Educational Psychology seeks to inform and improve educational practice through the creation and application of knowledge. Dr. Tomlinson's research focuses on the delivery of programs designed to increase engagement in learning and improve academic achievement for low-income and minority students. Dr. Penelope Lattimer is the Director of Rutgers Institute for Improving Student Achievement (RIISA) at GSE and the New Jersey School Development Council (NJSDC). Her office seeks to build networks and partnerships with districts and communities in New Jersey. Dr. Lattimer is the former Assistant New Jersey State Commissioner of Education and has served as an Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum & Instruction in a large urban district, a high school principal, and teacher.
