To provide project support for the Artist/Teacher Institute for Summer 2015
The mission of Arts Horizons (AH) is "to enhance the lives of people of all ages and abilities by creating equitable opportunities to engage in the arts".
* To provide quality arts experiences
* To support the skills that encourage life-long learning
* To seek and strengthen sustainable partnerships and collaborations with schools and organizations
Founded in 1978, we offer 45 performance programs, presented by 185 artists, and a roster of over 200 professional teaching artists who conduct residency and professional development programs. In FY14, we conducted 4,719 arts events.
All programs are conducted as partnerships with schools, colleges and universities, hospitals, libraries, other organizations, community and senior facilities. Many of these partnerships are of long standing: 14 years with NJSCA (aTi), 18 years with Newark and Orange schools, 10 years with Weehawken Schools, 8 years with the Englewood Library. We also work with advocacy /policy organizations such as Art Pride, NJ Arts Education Partnership, Arts Educators of NJ, and co-chair the NJ Arts Education Collective.
ARTISTS IN THE SCHOOLS: We create and present a wide range of sequential, innovative, educational, and culturally diverse arts programs through classroom workshops, artist-in residence workshop series, performances and events, appropriate for all children, including at-risk and special populations.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: We provide teachers and artists opportunities that strengthen their teaching and improve student learning.
OUT OF SCHOOL TIME / SPECIAL AUDIENCES: We provide school and community-based arts programs for all children and lifelong learning for seniors.
AH is governed by a 12-member Board of Trustees and currently employs 7 F/T and 5 P/T staff. Trustees are elected for 3-year renewable terms and are expected to contribute leadership, expertise, time, funds and contacts.
