General operating support to educate and empower environmental commissions to protect their local environment and provide leadership by coordinating state and regional environmental coalitions.
Since its founding in 1969, the Association of New Jersey Environmental Commissions (ANJEC) has supported the efforts of environmental commissions, open space committees, green teams and other officials protecting the environment on the municipal level.
ANJEC's mission is to achieve responsible and sustainable use of New Jersey's natural resources and protection of environmental health. We are a statewide organization that provides leadership, education, and support for environmental commissions and other local boards and public officials, and partners with other organizations to advocate for strong state and regional environmental policy.
The organization's 2,700 members represent environmental commissions in approximately 380 municipalities and all counties of New Jersey. Through an information service, training sessions, quarterly magazine, publications on key topics, and a comprehensive website, ANJEC helps commissions accomplish a range of projects. They compile environmental resource inventories and open space plans, promote recycling, and advise local governments and planning boards. We help them advocate on issues such as energy conservation, open space, stormwater, tree protection and water quality. In a ripple effect, the commissions use ANJEC's information to inform hundreds of local residents through fliers, newspaper articles, websites and environmental displays.
ANJEC addresses issues of statewide concern by working with other environmental organizations and the state government to recommend programs and policies. We organize Environmental Summit meetings for over 30 NJ environmental organizations, and play a leadership role in several other coalitions.
Jennifer Coffey began serving as ANJEC's Executive Director in July 2014 and comes to the Association with more than 15 experience in the NJ environmental non-profit sector. Assistant Director Kerry Miller has administrative and financial supervision and has administered ANJEC's re-grant program.
