To provide food and supportive services to the homeless and working poor in the community.
The Community Soup Kitchen and Outreach Center is an ecumenical effort supported and run by thirty congregations in Morris County. Our mission is to provide nutritious meals in a warm, safe, and caring environment, free of charge, to anyone who comes seeking nourishment. As part of our hospitality we encourage and assist our guests in accessing community resources, services, and educational programs. The Community Soup Kitchen builds relationships that encourage change, provides support and connects guests to the services that will help them to define and realize their full potential.
Our core values are deeply rooted in our history as an ecumenical effort supported by local congregations. We believe in the inherent worth and value of each human being. We believe that everyone deserves to be treated with respect and dignity regardless of age, gender, race, financial qualifications, or religious beliefs. We believe everyone has a basic right to a healthy and nutritious meal and to enjoy it in a welcoming and friendly environment.
We employ four full-time employees and only a handful of part-time staff members who provide direction in the kitchen and dining room. Our Executive Director, Teresa Connolly, earned a Masters Degree in Social Work from Rutgers University and has been with the Soup Kitchen for 16 years. Our Outreach Worker, Elena Graham, earned a BA from New York University and is a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor. We recently hired an additional social worker, Carol Ferraro, who is retired from the Social Security Administration -- her skill set makes her an invaluable addition to our small staff.
