To support urban agricultural, greening, and environmental justice programs to promote local solutions to environmental challenges in the Waterfront South neighborhood of Camden.

Organization Background

The Center for Environmental Transformation (CFET) is a non-profit that is rooted in the Roman Catholic tradition that directs its efforts to all people, particularly those who live in the Waterfront South neighborhood of Camden, NJ. In partnership with our neighbors, we seek to educate people into a more environmentally responsible way of living and sponsor local solutions to environmental challenges, with a focus on sustainable modes of food production.

CFET was established in 2007 by individuals from Sacred Heart Church united by common concern for the community. The proximity of a regional sewage treatment plant, a trash to steam plant and countless industries bring a huge array of health challenges and quality of life issues to the people who reside here. CFET promotes environmental justice in Camden, NJ through its: environmental justice retreats, sustainable community development, innovative sustainable agriculture leadership initiatives for youth, and green infrastructure projects. CFET received the EPA Environmental Quality Award in 2011.

CFET recently hired its first Executive Director with credentials to fulfill the mission of the organization. We are in the process of hiring an urban farmer/educator with a planned start date of February 1, 2015.
