Founded in 1970 as the Somerset Art Association, The Center for Contemporary Art (The Center) is committed to broadening, deepening and diversifying participation among audiences; to challenging and inspiring students, teachers, artists, enthusiasts, and members of the community through the many facets of the visual arts; and to creating a culture of the highest standards and expectations for artistic exploration, interpretation and perception. The Center's mission is, "To provide a vibrant, contemporary cultural center through arts education, exhibitions and community outreach that will inspire creativity and enhance people's lives."
Executive Director Elie Porter Trubert was hired in February 2011 to lead the newly renamed organization in rebranding, program, Board and staff development. She previously led the Development Departments at The Hunterdon Art Museum, the Arts Council of the Morris Area and the Visual Art Center of New Jersey, worked as a consultant with Partnership in Philanthropy and served on arts grant panels. Key staff members include: Norma Rahn, Director of Education; Stefanie Beaumont, Office Administrator, ADA and Outreach Coordinator; and Danielle Wolfrum, Development Assistant.
