For general operating support of Dreamcatcher's production season, and to expand their marketing and communications capacity.
Dreamcatcher Repertory Theatre is a professional ensemble of actors who build community with the audience by sharing life-affirming stories in an intimate environment. We seek to expose theatregoers to ideas and lives like and unlike their own, to awaken their imaginations and create empathy for others. The company focuses on deepening the experience of our patrons by supplementing the performances with personal contact through receptions, talkbacks, and interactive programs. Dreamcatcher's core company of professional local actors performs contemporary work that entertains and challenges, and has at its heart a belief in the essential goodness of people.
Our twenty-year-old company began performing in the summers only for four years, renting Luna Stage and 12 Miles West in Montclair. We were then offered the opportunity to move to Bloomfield College, where we expanded our season to the full year. We relocated in 2003 to the Baird Center in South Orange, an intimate theatre space where we were able to develop our programming and grow our audiences. In the fall of 2012, we moved to the Oakes Center in Summit, a larger and more comfortable space in a supportive community. We are proud to be an Equity Producing Theatre of the New Jersey Theatre Alliance. The company has a staff of one full-time employee: Laura Ekstrand, Founding Artistic Director. We have two part-time employees: Business Manager Roberta Palant and Melissa Cox, Box Office Manager, as well as many contracted employees such as actors, directors, designers, technicians, musicians and teachers.
