To sustain and build capacity for the Newark Arts Education Roundtable.
For over 30 years, the Newark Arts Council has served as a cultural anchor Newark and its arts community. In support of efforts to rebuild Newark and our surrounding communities, we produce annual programs and provide access to free tools that encourage resource sharing, drive advocacy, and help to increase awareness of arts and culture in our city. Our mission is, "To bring the transformative power of the arts into the lives of those who live-in, work-in, and visit Newark,". Major offerings include the ArtStart Grants Program, the Newark Arts Education Roundtable, and, the Open Doors Citywide Arts Festival. NAC efforts have helped solidify Newark's position in the region as a haven for artists across the state of New Jersey.
In 2007, recognizing the need for a unified focus for Newark organizations providing programming for Newark youth, the NAC led the way for the creation of the Newark Arts Education Roundtable (NAER), a strategic alliance of arts education stakeholders. It's mission is to ensure that all children in grades Pre-K-12 in the Newark have equitable access to high quality, sequential arts education opportunities, in and out of school. The NAER continues to be hosted by the Newark Arts Council.
