To support the Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey's 2015-16 season of artistic and education programs.

Organization Background

The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey is one of the nation's largest, most senior and prestigious classical theatres, serving approximately 100,000 children and adults annually. The longest running Shakespeare theatre on the East Coast, the company marks its 53rd season in 2015. Through our exemplary productions and groundbreaking education programs, we endeavor to illuminate the vital relevance and resonance of Shakespeare's work and other classics for contemporary audiences. Our work features world-class performances as well as a range of arts education programming that is rare in its breadth, depth and quality. Each year we present six productions on our Main Stage, the F.M. Kirby Shakespeare Theatre in Madison, and each summer we offer an additional long-run production at our Outdoor Stage, the Greek Theatre in neighboring Florham Park.

Our mission statement reads: The artists and Trustees of The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey bring dramatic masterpieces of the past to dynamic new life in order to inspire present lives as well as future visions of the world. We are a teaching theatre, fervently dedicated to providing transformative experiences through live performances of the classics. We integrate education and learning into all our endeavors, while promoting literacy, a culture of enlightenment, a dedication to excellence, and a keen awareness of how the arts are a necessity to the health of the collective mind and soul of a great civilization.

2015 will be a landmark year for the Theatre as we celebrate Bonnie J. Monte's 25th anniversary as Artistic Director and Brian B. Crowe's 20th year as Director of Education. We are incredibly proud of these milestones and of the commitment of our senior leadership. It is to be noted that this type of commitment in our field is not something that is seen with great regularity, and consistency at the highest levels has proven to be a great asset to our Theatre. Additional key staff include: Jeanne Barrett, Managing Director; Heidi Speckhart, Director of Development; Steve Beckel, Director of Production; Rick Engler, Director of Marketing; Stephen Brown-Fried, Artistic Associate/Casting Director; and Duane Dietz, Finance Director/Controller.
