For continued support of Trenton Children's Chorus, an after-school program offering choral music education and performance opportunities for underserved children in grades K-12.

Organization Background

TCC empowers the academic, social and spiritual lives of children through artistry in music. TCC began as a small program run by volunteers in 1989. Today's program offers choral music education and performance opportunities to 140 students in grades K-12 under the care of a Board, professional staff and cadre of volunteers. TCC identifies and seeks educational opportunities for members they might not otherwise seek for themselves and offers current students and graduates financial support for music lessons, private secondary schools and college. Students are placed in music and academic enrichment programs and summer camps. Formerly under the auspices of Princeton Outreach Projects, in 2011 TCC became an independent 501(c)3. In 2012 TCC was selected by the Trenton Funders Collaborative to receive a renewable grant for organizational capacity building.

The staff is a culturally diverse team of educators with a breadth of experience teaching children in an urban setting. Executive Artistic Director Patricia Thel joined TCC's staff in 2009, and has for 25 years directed the Westminster Conservatory Children's Choir. Operations Manager Kep Short is the former Director of Youth Ministry for the Episcopal Diocese of New Jersey and a consultant to churches on sustainable ministry models with young people. Choir Manager and Learning Academy Director Gloria Bethea is an educator, mentor and retired nurse clinician who has served TCC since 1999. Maureen Llort, Development Director, formerly served as TCC Program Manager. A financial manager, assistant choir manager, six teachers, four accompanists and ten teen rehearsal assistants complete the staff.

TCC has performed at the White House, United Nations, National Cathedral, Library of Congress, Princeton University, the inauguration of NJ Gov. Christie, with Bobby McFerrin and Dave Brubeck, and for corporate, community, church and private events.
