Union County Performing Arts Center (UCPAC) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit operating a 1,300-seat concert hall built in 1928 as a vaudeville house and movie theatre. In 1984, a local preservation group purchased the theatre and began a restoration process that continued until 2008, creating a prime 21st-century performing arts venue while adding a 65-seat multi-arts blackbox space called The Loft. In 2012, UCPAC became the parent of the 199-seat Hamilton Stage for the Performing Arts -- a multidisciplinary education, exhibition, performance and meeting facility. Built by City of Rahway's Redevelopment Agency at a cost of $9 million, Hamilton Stage and its 2.6-acre grounds are programmed by UCPAC. With its 3 public arts spaces, UCPAC has embraced its role as Rahway's primarysx multi-disciplinary community arts venue providing live arts performances that are educational, affordable and responsive to the diverse interests of numerous constituencies.
UCPAC's Executive Director, Lawrence McCullough, Ph.D., has been a professional administrator of arts and non-profit community ventures since 1973, coordinating dozens of arts and humanities events across the country, including Smithsonian Festival of American Folklife, Joseph Taylor Urban Studies Symposium, Austin Songwriters Competition and the original South by Southwest Music Conference, along with scores of symposia and conferences administered while employed as Assistant Director-Indiana University School of Music at Indianapolis; Administrative Director-Humanities Theatre Group; Executive Director-Music Umbrella of Austin; Senior Publicist-Englander & Keesee, Austin; Public Information Officer-Township of Woodbridge, NJ; Press Director-Hall Institute of Public Policy, Trenton, NJ.
