For Young Audience's Creativity Incubator, which researches and develops models of arts education, exploring creative, innovative methods of teaching and learning.

Organization Background

Young Audiences New Jersey & Eastern Pennsylvania's (YA) mission is to inspire young people and expand their learning through the arts. We envision a future in which all young people in New Jersey and Eastern Pennsylvania have the opportunity to engage in quality arts learning that nurtures creativity, cultural awareness, and the development of critical thinking and learning skills.

Our programs are child-centered, outcome driven, and measurably effective. Every program is designed around four core elements and provides children with the opportunity to:

EXPERIENCE extraordinary art and artists,

UNDERSTAND the value of art and creativity in the world,

CREATE art that engages the imagination and expresses ideas, and

CONNECT the creative process to classroom learning and life.

Since our founding in 1973, YA has grown into our state's largest and most comprehensive arts education organization. Focusing on children in grades pre-kindergarten through 12, our core programs include hands-on art making workshops, performances, professional development for teachers, and family arts events in all arts forms: dance, music, theatre, and digital and visual arts.

In the 2013-2014 school year, we presented 3,758 culturally diverse workshops and performances to 447,738 students and teachers.

Key personnel for the project are Laurence Capo, President & CEO; Maureen Heffernan, Director of Arts and Education; Jacqueline Knox, Arts Education Program Associate; and Christopher Parks, Producing Director.
