Grant Details

To provide talented and needy high school students with financial scholarships for the Rutgers Summer Acting Conservatory.

Organization Background

Since 2003, the Rutgers Summer Acting Conservatory for High School Students has provided teenaged students with a comprehensive approach to conservatory acting training and musical theater training during a month long summer residency on the scenic grounds of Rutgers, the state university in New Brunswick, New Jersey.

Admission to the Conservatory is highly selective (all students must audition, be interviewed and submit a recommendation letter), and once admitted, students join in a rigorous program dubbed -- "a boot camp for actors." The program consists of 3 main tracks -- Acting, Musical Theater, and Advanced.

Daily classes in acting, and regular classes in speech, voice, movement are major components of the Acting curriculum. Weekly excursions are made to New York city where students sample theater from Broadway, to international and Off- Broadway performances. Last year our students enjoyed the Broadway musical, "Matilda" and the critically acclaimed five and a half hour performance of Off-Broadway show, "The Mysteries."

Room, board, tuition and all activities for RSAC is $4,950.

The program is under the direction of Marshall Jones, III -- who is an Associate Professor at the prestigious Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University as well as the Producer of the Tony-Award winning Crossroads Theatre Company. Kevin Kittle, Assistant Professor at Mason Gross, is the Master Teacher of the Acting Program. Kevin has extensive directing credits including work with Arthur Miller and Sam Shepard. Stephen Augusta guides our Musical Theater program. He has several Broadway credits including the original cast of "Beauty and the Beast."
