To provide students in New Jersey public schools the opportunity to participate in a Modern Band program.
About Little Kids Rock
With its mission to "ensure that every student has the opportunity to unlock their inner music maker" Little Kids Rock has quickly become the largest provider of instruments, music curricula, and teacher training in the country. Having trained 3,100 teachers and served more than 500,000 students to date, Little Kids Rock has become a valued service provider to the U.S. public school system, and an educational reform movement uniting teachers nationwide.
We accomplish this by:
- Partnering with public school districts to provide a quality music education to as many young people as possible--especially those in underserved communities
- Championing an innovative Modern Band music education that connects learning to the music that kids already know and love--styles including rock, pop, blues, hip-hop, and country, among others--performed with guitars, keyboards, bass guitars, drums, vocals, and technology
- Recruiting, training, and equipping public school teachers to start music programs utilizing our methods and materials
Little Kids Rock began in 1996 as an informal effort by David Wish to give his San Francisco Bay Area second grade students a music enrichment program. What began as one teacher's effort to bring music education to a few dozen public school children has catapulted into a national nonprofit that has served hundreds of thousands of young people. Little Kids Rock was incorporated as a 501(c)(3) organization in 2001, and has since expanded with programs in 29 cities coast to coast.
