Organization Background

The Mayo Performing Arts Center, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, presents a wide range of programs that entertain, enrich, and educate the diverse population of the region and enhances the economic vitality of Northern New Jersey. MPAC's staff is led by Allison Larena, President and CEO, who has been at the helm since May 2002. Ms. Larena oversees all administrative, financial and operational aspects of the organization, including Board development and strategic planning. General Manager Ed Kirchdoerffer is responsible for day-to-day operations of the Box Office, marketing, public imaging, education and community partnerships. Marysue DePaola, Development Director, oversees all aspects of contributed income, including membership, grants, special events and other projects. Marketing, Production, Operations, Finance, and Education Directors round out MPAC's senior staff.

The Community Theatre first opened its doors in 1937 as the crown jewel of the Walter Reade movie theater chain - a welcomed asset to Morristown's downtown area during the depression era. However, after several decades of prosperity, theater attendance declined in the 1970s and the building was closed down in 1987. By 1994, this once beautiful Theatre had fallen into major disrepair, until community volunteers breathed new life into it, donating countless volunteer hours and resources to restore it. On September 29, 1994, a sold-out opening night gala concert with the Kirov Orchestra marked its rebirth. Today, following three successful capital campaigns, the Theatre has been transformed from the once modest Community Theatre into a premier performing arts center for Northern New Jersey that attracts world-class artists to this state-of-the art facility and serves as a platform for a variety of performing arts genres. In Fall 2014, we completed our third capital project to expand and update the front lobby, Box Office, outdoor plaza and Starlight walkway, enabling MPAC to better serve its patrons.
