General operating support to further natural resource protection through active stewardship, meaningful public policy changes, land protection and Delaware River Watershed preservation.

Organization Background

New Jersey Audubon (NJA) is a privately supported, 501(c)(3) non-profit, statewide membership organization with nearly 18,000 members. In carrying out its mission, NJA serves the more than 8.9 million state residents as well as millions of visitors who appreciate our ecological treasures. Founded in 1897 and one of the oldest Audubon societies, NJA is independent of the National Audubon Society. Its mission is to connect people with nature and steward the nature of today for the people of tomorrow. New Jersey Audubon fosters environmental awareness and a conservation ethic among New Jersey's citizens; protects New Jersey's birds, mammals, other animals, and plants, especially endangered and threatened species; and promotes preservation of New Jersey's valuable natural habitats. NJA carries out its mission through conservation, stewardship, education, and research.

The conservation and advocacy initiatives described in the proposal will be carried out by the NJA's Government Relations Unit, which includes Vice President for Government Relations Kelly Mooij, Policy Director Megan Tinsley, Delaware River Watershed Coalition Project Director Madeline Urbish, and Conservation Associate Madeline Emde. Primary responsibility for the deliverables related to this grant will be performed largely by Ms. Mooij and Ms. Tinsley, in addition to the Coalition for the Delaware River Watershed staff, as well as Vice President for Stewardship John Cecil. Ms. Mooij and Ms. Tinsley will also work in collaboration with Vice President for Education Dale Rosselet, and other NJA staff as necessary. Eric Stiles, CEO and President of NJA, will provide guidance and continue to play an advisory role in this project.
