Organization Background

Mile Square Theatre (MST) was founded in 2003 as a non-profit professional theatre company. Our mission is to enrich and engage the region through the production of professional theatre and innovative arts education.

Founded as a floating theatre, MST established residency in 2008 and developed a regular season, including theatre for young audiences, shows for adults, and an annual festival of original short plays. In 2014, MST relocated to a larger space and initiated a capital campaign to finance a major renovation. After two years in transition, we opened our new facility -- a 120-seat theatre, rehearsal studios, and our administrative office -- in April 2016, and resumed producing. Our expanded season includes 4-5 fully-staged productions, our 7th Inning Stretch short play festival and Broadway Cabaret, and additional events and co-productions.

During the transition to our new venue, MST operated in temporary facilities and produced limited seasons in 2014 and 2015. However we greatly expanded educational programs: we now offer afterschool dance classes in six styles, acting and improvisation classes, and enrichment in both dance and theatre in local early childhood centers and public schools.

Our guiding principle is that the arts meet a compelling human need, and the availability of high-quality arts opportunities is fundamental to a healthy community and society. MST is committed to producing work that meets the highest standards of creative excellence for patrons of all ages and all walks of life. We make every effort to ensure that admission is affordable, and we routinely offer free shows and discounts. As a professional theatre, we support artists and their work. Our education programs hold to the same artistic standards and are designed to promote creativity and essential learning skills; all teaching artists are experienced educators and accomplished working professionals.
