To support Jersey Water Works to advance innovative water infrastructure plans and projects and to implement Phase II of Build it Green, a design competition to scale-up the use of green, integrated infrastructure solutions.
New Jersey Future promotes growth that fosters vibrant cities and towns, protects natural lands and waterways, enhances transportation choices, provides access to safe, affordable and aging-friendly neighborhoods and promotes a strong economy. The organization does this through original research, innovative policy development and advocacy, strong partnerships and hands-on technical assistance.
During its 29-year history, New Jersey Future has successfully advanced the adoption and implementation of new laws for protecting the environment and encouraging smarter growth, including the State Planning Act, Highlands Water Protection Act and legislation enabling transfer of development rights (TDR) and non-contiguous clustering. It has taken legal action to stop sprawl and promote affordable housing and been granted "friend of the court" status in testifying on the intricacies of the State Plan. New Jersey Future has a long, successful track record as a convener, both of high-profile large events like the annual Redevelopment Forum and Smart Growth Awards, and of smaller groups working toward a specific set of outcomes.
Examples of facilitated leadership by New Jersey Future include: the Jersey Water Works collaborative, as well the Common Ground initiative with New Jersey environmental groups; the Transfer of Development Rights, Non-Contiguous Clustering and Smart Housing Zones working groups and campaigns; the Together North Jersey Environment and Livability committee; and the Greater Trenton initiative in downtown Trenton. The rich, bipartisan and multi-disciplinary composition of New Jersey Future's board of trustees also reflects and supports this collaborative approach to developing and implementing policy solutions.
