General operating support to advance greener communities in New Jersey through land conservation and urban park development.
In 1973, The Trust for Public Land completed its first project -- at Bea Canyon in Los Angeles, known as O'Melveny Park. Since then, we've created and protected 5,471 parks and natural areas. From your neighborhood playground to your favorite national park, The Trust for Public Land helps communities across America protect the places that matter most. Today, more than 7 million people live within a 10-minute walk of a place created or protected by The Trust for Public Land, and millions more visit these sites each year.
Our mission is to create parks and protect land for people, ensuring healthy, livable communities for generations to come.
Who we are: We understand local needs because we are locals: working from more than 30 field offices nationwide, we craft customized solutions to local conservation challenges.
How we do it: We help communities plan and identify the most important land for conservation, we help local governments develop measures and pass legislation to secure funding to create parks and protect land for people; we protect land for the public to enjoy; we engage communities in the process of creating innovative parks that foster a sense of place and connection to nature; and we educate and help communities make the case for parks and open space by using our analyses and research tools.
Why we do it: We want to give more people places to spend the best part of their day.
