To advance climate justice and resiliency, and green water infrastructure policy and practice in Newark, New Jersey.
Clean Water Fund's mission is to develop strong community-based environmental leadership and to bring together diverse constituencies to work cooperatively for sensible solutions that address public health, environmental/justice, consumer and community problems.
For over 40 years, CWF has been educating and empowering local residents by: (1) developing and/or strengthening grassroots partnerships, organizations and citizen leadership, and (2) enabling people to plan and conduct programs that improve their lives. This often requires changes in policy at the institutional, local, regional, state and/or national levels.
To that end, Clean Water Fund has helped people campaign successfully for cleaner, safer water, air, and energy; protection from toxic pollution in our homes, schools, neighborhoods and workplaces; promote sustainability/stop the sprawl measures; climate resiliency and action, conservation of natural resources, as well as make the democratic process more accessible to those most affected.
Clean Water Fund's programs build on and complement those of Clean Water Action (CWA), a national 501(c)(4) organization with more than 1,200,000 members. The state chapter of CWA, (formerly known as the New Jersey Environmental Federation) consists of 150,000+ individual members and 75,000 email subscribers.
CWF has maintained a program presence in New Jersey since 1983 with offices in Montclair, Trenton, Belmar (now in Long Branch due to Hurricane Sandy), Marlton (now retired) and Newark through its volunteer board, and network of experts, local leaders and collaborating organizations. The program staff consists of the State Director, Campaign Director, Communications and Marketing Manager, Newark-based Environmental Justice and Climate Organizers, community outreach workers and part time Events Coordinator, and soon to hired Energy and Zero Waste Organizers.
