To continue to grow, support and strengthen the New Jersey news and information ecosystem for the benefit of residents.
The Center for Cooperative Media exists to grow, support, develop and unite newsgathering and media organizations in New Jersey. We do this using many methods. The Center promotes the spread of data, investigative, and collaborative journalism. It hosts trainings on a wide range of topics and develops and acquires tools to help freelancers and smaller publications stay on top of the latest trends in digital media and publishing. We help coordinate statewide collaborative reporting initiatives and other cooperative ventures to build bridges between otherwise-competitive players and between mature organizations and newer ones. One of our more subtle, yet indispensable contributions to the New Jersey news ecosystem is our role as a nexus of communication and connection between Center partners in the New Jersey news and information ecosystem and between those entities and national organizations. We are a constant resource, connector, and sounding board for news organizations across the state, particularly small ones. The Center utilizes resources from these partners, from funders and from the School of Communication and Media at Montclair State.
