The Paul Robeson Galleries (PRG) is an artistic and cultural center dedicated to presenting art and cultural artifacts as well as educational and public programming in the spirit of the diverse metropolitan context of Rutgers University at Newark, the greater Newark communities, and the northeast region of New Jersey. The Galleries' programs strive to:
1.Present arts and visual culture exhibitions and events of the highest quality
2.Enrich the University arts programs with cross disciplinary collaborations
3.Provide gallery educational experience to local and regional communities
4.Advance Paul Robeson's legacy of encouraging cross-cultural artistic freedom and cultural democracy
5.Reflect the spirit of the University's diverse metropolitan context
6.Emphasize the role of arts and culture in the shaping and functioning of society
7.Facilitate the connection between the Rutgers-Newark campus and the larger community
8.Strengthen collaborative relationships with Newark's artistic, cultural, and educational organizations
9.Enhance the quality of life for the campus and greater Newark community
Staff: The FT Director & Curator of the PRG is Anonda Bell. Bell has worked at Rutgers since 2007 and has been the Director since 2009. In her time at the PRG, Bell has built on the already strong networks within communities, and has also continued to emphasize the simultaneous development of both exhibition and public/education programming schedules, with each existing in a mutually beneficial symbiotic relationship with the other. Caren Choi is the FT Education Coordinator & Gallery Manager, and has been at Rutgers since 2008.
