For support of "Public Arts by the Public" arts education programming, bringing Animodule initiatives to under-resourced youth throughout New Jersey.

Organization Background

The mission of the Barat Foundation is transforming young lives and communities through arts education and collaborative public art. We fulfill this mission through our Creation Nation? arts education and public art initiatives. Since its inception, the Barat Foundation has provided arts education initiatives dedicated to youth development, artistic excellence and civic engagement that directly impact the lives of thousands of Newark children annually. In partnership with schools, businesses, and community organizations we bring our "Public Art by the Public" educational programs directly into the classroom, and onto the street. Students embark on an artistic exploration of current topics affecting their lives, and bring those experiences to life with the creation of collaborative community murals and our sculptural representations, the Animodules?. By acknowledging and empowering young voices, Creation Nation serves as a catalyst: not only for the opportunity presented to youth to express themselves through the artistic process, but also in the provision of safe and accessible spaces for the promotion of the civic ideals of inclusion, diversity, and pride of place. Barat Foundation arts education programs spark imagination, open new opportunities, and bring New Jersey youth hands-on into the artistic and cultural landscape of their community. Programs encourage problem solving, teamwork and critical thinking, recognizing creativity and resiliency as driving forces in the 21st Century economy.
