Third Round Grants 2019

 

  • American Littoral Society (Highlands, Monmouth County): $50,000 in general operating support of policy advocacy, research, and conservation programs to protect coastal areas and marine ecosystems in New Jersey. Program area: Environment 

  • Arts and Education Center (Matawan, Monmouth County): $10,000 for scholarship support of the 2020 NJ State Teen Arts Festival to provide equitable access for districts unable to afford participation expenses and to provide more culturally relevant workshop experiences. Program area: Education 

  • Arts Horizons (Englewood, Bergen County): $5,000 for project support to continue the creation of an online arts education professional development learning tool for teachers and teaching artists, with a focus this year on dance and culturally responsive arts approaches. Program area: Education 

  • Association of New Jersey Environmental Commissions (Mendham, Mercer County): $65,000 general operating support of education and technical assistance to municipal officials to advance environmental protection and sustainability action in their communities. Program area: Environment 

  • Camden Repertory Theater Community Development Group (Camden, Camden County): $15,500 for planning support of MIC CHECK, an artist-driven neighborhood development program that partners with community developers, city planners, and designers in revitalizing the city from within using Camden’s existing vibrant cultural and civic talent. Program area: Arts 

  • Center for Cooperative Media at Montclair State University (Montclair, Essex County): $56,000 project support for New Jerseys 2020 Census Media Counts, an initiative which will support people-of-color media organizations in New Jersey in developing census outreach and engagement plans. Program area: Informed Communities 

  • Clean Ocean Action (Long Branch, Monmouth County): $45,000 general operating support of education, outreach, and watershed protection programs to defend and protect New Jersey's marine resources from industrialization and pollution. Program area: Environment 

  • Clean Water Fund (Long Branch, Monmouth County): $65,000 general operating support of community engagement in local actions that advance water and climate justice in Newark, and to inform advocate for policies, planning and protections that benefit environmental justice communities throughout New Jersey. Program area: Environment 

  • coLAB Arts Inc (New Brunswick, Middlesex County): $10,000 to support the ways in which journalism, oral history, and creative storytelling can be integrated into artistic practice to amplify diverse, inclusive stories, support research and advocacy efforts, and engage community participation. Program area: Informed Communities 

  • coLAB Arts Inc (New Brunswick, Middlesex County): $10,000 for project support of a 2019-20 theater residency at New Brunswick High School and to connect more young residents to coLabs work. Program area: Education 

  • Community Foundation of South Jersey (Haddonfield, Camden County): $60,000 for administrative support of the Transform South Jersey funder collaborative that will engage five south Jersey communities in the Heart and Soul community engagement process, including $25,000 to support community project directors. Program area: Technical Assistance 

  • Conservatory of Music and Performing Arts Society (Trenton, Mercer County): $25,000 for continued project support of the 2019-20 Arts for Any Given Child Trenton initiative focused on expanding arts education in Trenton Public Schools. Program area: Education 

  • D & R Greenway Land Trust (Princeton, Mercer County): $40,000 general operating support to preserve and steward land and conservation easements and inspire a conservation ethic by connecting people to nature. Program area: Environment 

  • Dance New Jersey (Sewaren, Middlesex County): $85,000 for support of implementation of Dance to learn in the 2020-21 school year, led by Dance NJ and Young Audiences. Program area: Education 

  • East Coast Greenway Alliance (Durham, NC): $10,000 to support advocacy and development of the East Coast Greenway to increase public access to trails and accelerate equitable bicycle and pedestrian friendly infrastructure in New Jersey. Program area: Environment 

  • Eastern Environmental Law Center (Newark, Essex County): $65,000 general operating support to provide legal services to advocate for environmental justice, clean energy, and sustainability in New Jersey. Program area: Environment 

  • Education Law Center (Newark, Essex County): $50,000 general operating support to support advocacy efforts on behalf of New Jersey's public school children, especially those most vulnerable. Program area: Education 

  • Foundation for Educational Administration (Monroe Township, Middlesex County): $155,000 for support of the Arts Integration Leadership Institute: a yearlong series of activities and coaching for school teams to explore and implement the integration of arts standards with those of other core curriculum content standards. Program area: Education 

  • Funders' Network for Smart Growth and Livable Communities (Coral Gables, FL): $8,000 to support the Urban Water Funders Network. Program area: Environment 

  • GreenFaith (Highland Park, Middlesex County): $35,000 to support GreenFaith Circles, local multi-faith action hubs to drive environmental sustainability action in communities throughout New Jersey. Program area: Environment 

  • Hackensack Riverkeeper (Hackensack, Hudson County): $55,000 general operating support of advocacy, outreach, and public engagement programs to support the protection of the Hackensack River watershed, and for a shared staff attorney with NY/NJ Baykeeper. Program area: Environment 

  • Humanities Action Lab (Newark, Essex County): $20,000 for the Climates of Inequality: Stories of Environmental Justice, Activating the Arts for a Just Transition in New Jersey, a multi-media participatory storytelling process in environmental justice communities in New Jersey.  

  • Life Camp Inc (Morristown, Morris County): $10,000 to provide 550 Newark children six weeks of academic, artistic and athletic programming in a safe, nurturing and encouraging environment.  

  • Lincoln Park Coast Cultural District (Newark, Essex County): $19,500 For support to build Newark's Lincoln Park Creative Economy Program area: Arts 

  • Monmouth Conservation Foundation (Middletown, Monmouth County): $20,000 general operating support to preserve and protect parks, open space, farmland, wildlife and wetlands throughout Monmouth County. Program area: Environment 

  • Montclair State University Center for Cooperative Media (Montclair, Essex County): $56,000 project support for New Jerseys 2020 Census Media Counts, an initiative which will support people of color media in New Jersey organizations in developing Census outreach and engagement plans. Program area: Informed Communities 

  • National Housing Institute/Shelterforce (Montclair, Essex County): $10,000 to pilot new approaches to storytelling to amplify arts-and-culture-focused community building efforts in New Jersey communities of color. Program area: Informed Communities 

  • Natural Lands Trust (Media, Somerset County): $30,000 to support open space preservation and stewardship, and education and engagement programs that connect people to nature in South Jersey. Program area: Environment 

  • Natural Resources Defense Council (New York, NY): $20,000 to support collaborative advocacy to secure state and local policies that ensure sustainable and affordable water, wastewater, and stormwater infrastructure in New Jersey. Program area: Environment 

  • Newark Boys Chorus School (Newark, Essex County): $10000 For project support of arts integration experiences utilizing STEM, literacy, history and music connections. Program area: Education 

  • Newark Public Schools (Community Foundation of New Jersey) (Morristown, Morris County): $20,000 for support of Newark Public School’s Renew the Arts part-time coordinator and professional development opportunities to grow arts education throughout the district. Program area: Education 

  • New Brunswick Tomorrow (New Brunswick, Middlesex County): $10,000 to support their partnership with coLab Arts and help spark new and build upon artistic programming in the Esperanza neighborhood in New Brunswick with focuses on the arts, community engagement, environment, and student and family engagement.  

  • New Jersey Audubon Society (Bernardsville, Somerset County): $40,000 general operating support for public and private land stewardship projects, policy advocacy, education, and coalition building to support conservation and watershed protection, and connect people to nature in their communities. Program area: Environment 

  • New Jersey Policy Perspective (Trenton, Mercer County): $50,000 for support of For the Many: Connecting New Jersey Communities Through State Policy, an initiative that aims to build community power through storytelling, public dialogue, and action. Program area: Informed Communities 

  • New Jersey Symphony Orchestra (Newark, Essex County): $40,000 For support of the El Sistema New Jersey Alliance management and activities. Program area: Education 

  • New Jersey Tree Foundation, Inc. (Jackson, Ocean County): $25,000 general operating support to engage communities in urban forestry and stewardship, and implement a green jobs program. Program area: Environment 

  • Northeast Organic Farming Association (Hillsborough Township, Somerset County): $20,000 general operating support for outreach, education, research and advocacy to advance and support farmers and the regenerative agricultural movement in New Jersey. Program area: Environment 

  • Nourish NJ (formerly Community Soup Kitchen and Outreach center) (Morristown, Morris County): $30,000 to provide fresh healthy food 365 days a year, and social services, housing, mental health and employment services to guests. Program area: Morristown 

  • Open Space Institute, Inc (New York, Out of State County): $10,000 to support land conservation projects that increase public access to open space and protect watersheds in New Jersey. Program area: Environment 

  • Partnership for the Delaware Estuary (Wilmington, Out of State County): $30,000 to support science-based restoration projects and community outreach and education programs, and to coordinate a network of stakeholders to improve the tidal Delaware River and Estuary in New Jersey. Program area: Environment 

  • Passaic River Coalition (MORRISTOWN, Morris County): $25,000 general operating support of policy advocacy and conservation programs to protect natural resources, reduce flooding and improve water quality in the Passaic River basin. Program area: Environment 

  • Paterson Alliance (Paterson, Passaic County): $35,000 For support of ongoing board training and a board recruitment coach for Paterson nonprofit organizations as well as the introduction of diversity, inclusion, and equity training for this growing learning community. Program area: Technical Assistance 

  • Pinelands Preservation Alliance (Southampton, Burlington County): $60,000 general operating support for advocacy, constituency building, and community engagement programs to advance protection of New Jersey's Pinelands. Program area: Environment 

  • Rutgers Cooperative Extension (New Brunswick, Middlesex County): $35,000 for the Green Infrastructure Technical Support Program to facilitate implementation of green stormwater infrastructure to reduce flooding, increase resiliency, and improve water quality, through technical support to municipalities and their partners. Program area: Environment 

  • Sister Cities Girlchoir (Philadelphia, Camden County): $35,000 For project support of an El Sistema-inspired choral program for Camden children that builds a musical community with their Philadelphia counterparts and aims to empower youth as agents of change. Program area: Education 

  • Teach for America (Newark, Essex County): $20,000 General operating support for Teach For America New Jerseys efforts to diversify the teacher workforce and provide culturally relevant pedagogy for all students. Program area: Education 

  • The Fund for New Jersey (Princeton, Mercer County): $100,000 to support the complete count of all New Jerseyans in the 2020 Census by aligning with philanthropic partners to fund a coordinated statewide effort to reach hard-to-count communities. 

  • The Nature Conservancy (Chester, Morris County): $40,000 general operating support for the protection of priority conservation lands and use of nature-based solutions to improve water quality, habitat, and resilience of natural systems in New Jersey. Program area: Environment 

  • The Watershed Institute (Pennington, Mercer County): $155,000 to support the Watershed Resources Service to mobilize, connect, and strengthen the capacity of New Jersey's watershed organizations and their partners, through technical assistance and training programs, public policy advocacy, and grant support. Program area: Environment 

  • Trenton Downtown Association (Trenton, Mercer County): $10,000 for project support to advance the launch of the Creek to Canal Creative District. Program area: Arts 

  • University of Orange (Orange, Essex County): $20,000 for project support of the Remembering Rosa: Stories and Songs of Peoples Power project Program area: Arts 

  • Urban League of Essex County (Newark, Essex County): $19,500 For project support of three projects in Fairmount to engage artists and creatives that live in Fairmount to be a force for change in their neighborhood: Windows on Fairmount, Fairmount Art Collective, and Fairmount Art Spaces Plan. Program area: Arts 

  • Wharton Institute for the Performing Arts (Berkeley Heights, Union County): $45,000 for project support of the El Sistema-inspired Paterson Music Project Program area: Education 

  • Wind of the Spirit Immigrant Resource Center (Morristown, Morris County): $10,000 to support the Contando Nuestras Historias/Telling Our Stories project, a pilot partnership with the Dodge Poetry Program to amplify the voices and stories of New Jersey’s Latinx immigrant community. 

  • Young Audiences New Jersey & Eastern Pennsylvania (Princeton, Mercer County): $10,000 for project support for 2019-2020 culturally responsive professional learning for classroom teachers, arts specialists, school administrators, and teaching artists throughout New Jersey as part of a collaboration with the NJ State Council on the Arts.
