Grow It Green Morristown is taking over our Instagram for the latest installment of #dodgetakeover to show you a week in the life of urban farmers and educators at its Urban Farm, New Jersey’s largest school garden. Learn about the organization’s programs, get a glimpse of what’s blooming, see what’s for sale at their farm stand, and find out what it takes to keep it thriving and sustainable.

#Dodgetakeover is a new social campaign to introduce you to Dodge grantees and offer a glimpse into a week of their work in pictures and video.

Based in Morristown (right here at 14 Maple Avenue!), Grow It Green Morristown’s mission is to create sustainable farms and gardens that provide equal access to fresh, local food and educate communities through programs focused on healthy eating and environmental stewardship.

They transformed an under-utilized playground at the Lafayette Learning Center and made it a place where community and learning thrives — The Urban Farm. Designed with the learning process in mind, it is an agricultural classroom that grows food with “beyond organic” principles, meaning they use no chemicals. The land is worked mostly by hand, tended by Farmer Shaun, interns and community volunteers.

Grow It Green also runs the Early Street Community Garden and hosts programs designed to empower people to be their own farmer.

Don’t miss a moment of the takeover. Follow @dodgefoundation and @gigmotown using #dodgetakeover all week.

We have more great New Jersey nonprofits lined up for #dodgetakeover events this summer. If you’re a grantee who wants to get in on the action, email me at mjambor@grdodge.org.
