Throughout December, we are highlighting each of the organizations featured in our Jersey Give-Back Guide, an online portal for year-end giving that makes it easy to donate to some of New Jersey’s most effective nonprofits. Today we feature NJ Highlands Coalition.

WHAT WE DO: The Highlands Coalition provides a unified voice for Highlands protection addressing many critical issues facing the region.

WHY WE’RE GREAT: The Highlands Coalition is made up of a diverse and effective group of organizations and individuals who have joined to advocate for the protection, preservation, and enhancement of the water, forests, wildlife, farmland and other natural, historic and cultural resources of the New Jersey Highlands.

HOW YOUR DONATION WILL HELP: Your support helps programs such as: Lopatcong Creek Project (restoration of a trout stream), Trenton Initiative (raising legislative and citizen awareness), Highlands Advocate Program (local residents advocating for the protection of their communities), Uphold the Highlands (engaging water users outside the Highlands), Water Campaign (collaboration with Pinelands Preservation Alliance that promotes understanding about how regional planning protects the state’s water supply) and Small Grants Program (supports grass-roots organizations).

ADDITIONAL NEEDS: In addition to making a contribution through the website, help us SPREAD THE WORD about the State’s prized piece of the Appalachian Mountain chain. If you or an organization you support is interested in hosting the New Jersey Highlands Coalition for a free screening of “The Highlands Rediscovered,” the NJN film followed by a short Q&A session, please contact Erica Van Auken at erica@njhighlandscoalition.org.
